I came to this restaurant for my father's birthday and the food was incredible. It is an authetic portuguese restaurant on James street in Hamilton. For an appetizer we had the Bruchetta, which is baked pizza style bread topped with tomato, onion and garlic. Yumm! For the dish I ate the Filete com arroz, which is fish filete with seafood rice. The dish cost $17 but was really cheap considering the amount of food that was provided. I will definetely return to this restaurant and recommend anyone to try this place. They have a large menu with many options. If you havent tried portuguese food or just love the food, you wont be disappointed at the Wild Orchid. Read more

Another delicious meal at Umberto's last night, with great service, a quiet table, and an unpretentious atmosphere. A side note, but important, they hit just the right note with the background music. Smooth jazz at just enough volume to enjoy. It was fairly quiet for a Thursday night, but the other half dozen or so tables were also filled with diners expressing their appreciation for a good meal. Beef carpaccio was, like all the dishes, the perfect size portion. My husband and I shared it well as the bruschetta, which was a little too cheesy for me but perfect for him. The chef salad is a great mix of greens and veg with a nice vinaigrette. The ostrich and kangaroo - what can I say - grilled/sauteed just beautifully and mouthwateringly delicious. The Shiraz reduction was a very nice accompaniment to the kangaroo. Both entrees were served with roasted veg and potatoes, nicely seasoned, as well as a charming little fresh vegetable relish/slaw on radicchio. Shared a bottle of 2009 Rosemount Cab Shiraz, chosen from the small but interesting wine list, proved a good choice. We lingered over tiramisu and flourless chocolate hazelnut cake, preferring the tiramisu. The "Umberto" specialty coffee was a lovely finish to the meal. Ingredients were fresh, attention was paid to presentation, and the service was very attentive yet not intrusive. We will definitely be back. (I will try the seafood pasta next time - 3 of the table of 6 near us ordered it as their favorite) Read more

Love this place! My husband and I were looking for good fish and chips and we were quite satisfied. I dont really care what the place looks like on the inside as long as it is clean. They have a sign saying the health department has been there and checked the place out and they passed so thats alright in my books. I think some people are a little dramatic on here. Although they're famous for their chicken, we'll be going back for their fish (and maybe try the chicken for my 'no way I'm eating fish' husband). My son and I were looking for a quick bite for lunch after doing some shopping at the nearby Scholars Choice and found this place. Smelled soo good. As we didn't see a lot of prices or labels, my son ordered the Portuguese sausage sandwich and I lingered over the windows filled with mountains of fish, rice, potatoes and was served by a very pleasant and helpful young man. I asked about a particular dish and ended up ordering the amazing looking and super delicious cod with a side of potatoes, The server put two layers of potatoes in a good sized container, covered it with the huge portion of cod and then he began spooning a loving amount of the yummy sauce over the dish. As it really isn't a sit down place, we were hungry and ate there. I paid less than $20 and was in heaven. My son enjoyed his sausage but will definitely order the cod next time. Was surprised to read about 'grumpy' servers. Ours even thanked us for coming on our way out. Maybe because it was in the early Friday afternoon, we saw that customers were served quickly (looked like they ordered huge quantities ahead) and courteously. Definitely going back for that cod. There aren't many places in the area where one can get fish & chips, unless they drive to Barrie and go to Fancies Fish & Chips. Blue Water Fish & Chips is a small restaurant with a tired decor. Mind you there are historical photos of boats that have travelled Georgian Bay & the Great Lakes and are interesting to look at.. We love the halibut served here. While the portion size is small it is extremely tasty, with mild tasting halibut and a golden batter. After the second or third bite you can taste & feel the grease but isn't that to be expected with deep fried fish? I've never eaten fish & chips that I haven't tasted the grease. We hate it when the restaurant is closed for vacation. We love eating here and they even have lots of newspapers and reading material for those of us that prefer to read while we're eating. All we've ever ordered has been the fish & small chips or else we'll order 2 fish and a small chip each and we never go away hungry. Read more
