I was here with a friend for a Monday lunch. Apparently Monday is the slowest day of the week , the place wasn’t busy, and the lunch traffic was handled by one friendly young waitress. In some places when business is slow and the staff don’t have much to do, service can be bad. Why exert yourself for just a couple of people in the corner ? However that wasn’t the case at Paddy’s as our girl was keeping herself quite busy, giving extra attention to the few early lunch hour customers who were already there. As the lunch hour rolled on more people showed up, and eventually they had a respectably sized crowd for lunch. I had one of the specials of the day -the mushroom soup ($4.99) and it was followed by the chicken tikka masala curry ($12.99). I was hungry and I tucked into the soup as soon as it arrived and I didn’t pause very often until it was gone. It was pretty good and if I was home and had a spatula, I would have scraped the soup bowl clean and licked the spatula ! I was still hungry after the soup. The curry that followed was okay. The large plate was divided into equal parts of green peas, plain basmati rice, and the chicken curry. My first impression was that I would have liked fewer peas and more curry! However the portions were just enough to satisfy my hunger – not too little, not too much – just right! My friend had the seafood pie with a side of chowder ($15.98). I didn’t ask him how it was and he didn’t volunteer, so I guess his meal was at least acceptable and probably better than just that. I found my curry a little bland. I think they described it as “medium” on the menu but I thought it was weaker than that. I suppose I could have asked for a bottle of Tabasco sauce to heat it up. They must have to cater to diners who think they are adventurous with hot food but who really aren’t ? The service was very good, the food was at least okay maybe “good”, but the price ? Well, I thought the price was at the top end of the lunch range. I paid $51 with tip for the two of us and we only had soft drinks ($2.79) with our meals. I think we could have received the same value at other places for about $15 less. I usually end up at Paddy’s about once a year. The prices are probably why I don’t go there more often. I’ve got a feeling it would be a very appropriate place to spend an evening with friends for some pub food, a few drinks, and a great atmosphere, but as a lunch spot…well, there’s better value elsewhere in “River City”. I tend to stick with the spicy foods whereas my wife prefers it relatively mild. My wife had the beef burrito and I the blackened chicken chimichanga (made extra hot). Confession: I don't come here for the food. I come because I live close by and I like the environment, especially when I'm eating alone. It's just a fun place to spend an hour, and I'm sure that's why it's always busy and obviously a successful business. I've been twice recently, and both times I ordered the sirloin steak. I'd normally stick to burgers and wings at this type of place, but the waitress was very convincing that steak was their specialty. The first time she was right! The first steak I had was every bit as good as what you'd get at, say the Keg on a good nite. I was quite impressed! So I went back two weeks later and ordered the same steak dinner. This time I was disappointed. Although it was cooked perfectly (to the medium rare spec I ordered), the beef wasn't of high quality. Instead it was tough and full of grizzle. Not a great experience and certainly not acceptable for a $25 entree. I'll no doubt go back to Jack Astors but I'm going to stick to pub fare. That's obviously what they're good at. Read more

My family and I have been coming to Grog's for years now. It's a great place to come to enjoy friends, food, and have a laugh. The service at Grog's is unbelievable great! Everyone is so nice and brings a positive atmosphere to the restaurant. It is always a good idea to make reservations before going to Grog's because it is always busy, in a good way. The location is just outside of the Grand Bend Strip, about a 10 minute drive with a lot of parking. It's a great place to go after a long day at the beach. Now, the food at this restaurant is fantastic. It is always fresh and delicious. My favourite dish there is the panzarotti with their famous zany bread, which I highly recommend. All the dishes they have on the menu are prepared in a timely manager and it never disappoints. Grog’s is a great place to bring your family and friends and enjoy all the wonderful people and food. Went here with friends. They been here before My wife and I had not. Our server ask if we been before and then helped us on some questions we had about the menu. Dave was very helpful with our decisions. He did not rush us and was very patient. Our english is not great but he was able to understand and help us with deciding. The wrap and roll platter was a great taste of different items and coconut shrimp was very good. We order many different dishes to try and share. Dave mentioned they were big portions and he was right. We had lots of leftovers for next day. The decor was very nice and relaxing. not very busy though. A pleasant stop if you are in Ilderton, and especially if you are a fan of a pub atmosphere and cask conditioned ale. I've been here several times, and I usually stick with the nachos because they are a great value and are also quite tasty. But I have had the Steak and Guinness Pie which is also quite the treat. Service has always been great when I have been. I always get a few pints of cask ale when I go, and am never disappointed. It is always fresh and well kept. Rich is a true cellarmaster and knows his beer. As a result, this is a destination for lovers of true cask ale, and the only place in the south west of Ontario to try this unique style of ale. The atmosphere is comfy, nice booths, a bar to sit at, a seperate room with televisions for those inclined to watch a game, and there is also a large screen in the main room for the larger events. Overall, highly a recommended stop if you are in Ilderton or area. No where else near here can you get cask ale, great service, and really tasty food. I'll be back! Read more
