I am Japanese and I like this restaurant! I have ordered Sushi only. I haven't tried other menus yet. Sushi is good quality and service is good. I pay around 10 dollars for sushi. (5 pieces of sushi and 8 pieces of maki rolls) It's very very affordable. If other people complain that it's not the best quality, this is not the place to go. You can't get the best quality for 10 bucks. Please go to restaurant owned by Japanese. However, if you're looking for affordable, decent quality sushi, I highly recommend Bento Box. Faced with an 8 page menu, exhaustive in its range of enticing descriptions of Japanese and Korean food, I opted to sample the former side by having soup, salad and appetizers (3 as it turned out). I love miso soup and have had incarnations of it in many places in Canada and abroad but this broth was simply fabulous in the depth and complexity of what is often a flat, watery introduction to a meal. The poky salad (fresh tuna, julienned seaweed, etc.) was vibrant, flavourful and spicy as advertised. I started my appetizer foray with mandu yaki (small homemade dumplings with a combo of 8 different ingredients) and tako yaki (fried minced octopus balls with a unagi and katsu sauce on the side). Can you say FABULOUS?. Having washed it all down with warm sake, I rested for a while and then tackled a tempura dish: soft shelled crab (4 pieces) with a ponzu sauce. Cheer again. Service was attentive and friendly and relaxed especially when the young lady and John, the son of the owner realized that I wasn't in a hurry. (I was honoured with a tempura zucchini sample from the owner's garden (in the back he said when I mentioned that he had tomatoes growing in the front). This is simply wonderful food, presented with smiles and pride by people who love doing what they do. I can't wait to return and try some deeply Korean dishes of which there is an abundance on that wide-ranging menu. Read more

This restaurant has excellent sushi. The fish is so fresh and very high quality. The ratio of fish to rice is perfect. I've been eating there since it opened and their quality and great service have been consistent since day 1. Our "go to" meal for two is the medium Sushi Moriawase which is a 30 piece assortment of sushi and maki, a small salad and miso soup. Have been a regular at Ami for a couple years now and let me tell you they have yet to let me down. We usually order nigiri sushi and rolls. The nigiri is the best you will find in Oakville hands down. The piece of fish you get is twice the size of the rice making it a very generous portion. I have eaten at at least 10 other sushi joints in town and prefer Ami nigiri any day. The staff is amazing and they even deliver. My husband and I discovered Dai Ichi several years ago almost by accident on New Year's Eve when the Mandarin was overcrowded and behind on their reservations. I have always been grateful to Mandarin for their ineptitude. Dai Ichi is a small, out of the way place, tucked into a nondescript strip mall near a Longo's and Shopper's Drug Mart, but it is definitely one of the best sushi places in the area. I used to come here quite often when it was under different management. It was always good then and it is still good now. My fiance and I were looking for a good quick lunch, I had been here before so we decided to try it again. We were not dissapointed. The food was fresh, hot and cold where it should have been. Even the miso was tasty, some places make it too salty. The couple that runs the place were friendly and happy to help us. The tempura spicy crab roll was my favorite roll from the old menu, I couldn't find it on the new menu but when I asked they said they could make it for me no problem. The food was made right in front of us and it was ready quick, we barely had to wait more than 10 minutes. It is a small shop, room for only 4 or 5 people to sit down so it is food to take home if you have a big party of people, but you wont regret it. The shop is clean and the ingredients are fresh.
