As we walked in the restaurant we were the first ones to arrive noticing the last couple items for the buffet were just coming out. Everything looked and smelt great. Our server was a male and he was very friendly and kind, he explained what was in the buffet very clearly and then we were able to start. The Empress of India offers 14 items for their lunch buffet, 8 hot items and 6 cold. We were also happy to see they had a very good vegetarian selection. As we were eating we all talked about how much flavour the food had. However the food had a little bit spice to it, but nobody really minded since it was so good! The restaurant filled up after 15-20 minutes, but the server was able to contol it very well. As we are not locals , We will still return to the Empress of India for it's very fine food. Read more

Tonight was my sixth visit to Tyrone. I've been there four times for their Tuscan brunch, and this was my second time for supper. It is always a great experience. I can't believe the price of the fixed price meals... previously I paid $35 for five courses at supper, or $25 for five courses at brunch, but tonight was "date night" (every Thursday) so two 4-course meals with a bottle of wine was $70. Tonight they served raw oysters, corn-lamb soup, bouillabaisse, and Tiramisu. It was all perfect. The room is lovely; the chairs are comfortable; the wait staff are very pleasant and attentive. But the main thing is that the food is so well prepared - no matter what they serve, the execution is wonderful. SInce I always eat the fixed price menu, I guess I've eaten 29 courses there, and I haven't been disappointed by one yet. Oh - and the crusty olive bread is incredible. Read more

We go to the Barley Works on Friday or Saturday nights after nine pm to play trivia. We have samples seveal of their menu offerings and really enjoy the perogies and spinach salad. April is a great bartender and we are never left waiting or wondering if we are being taken care of. Worth the drive to Waterloo if you like a place to sit and play a bit of interactive trivia. So long as you don't mind that it is mostly a student hangout (and we "old fogies" don't mind at all). Read more

Upon discovering this place, I have been at least once a week either for a pot of tea, a quick lunch or a dinner with my partner. The atmosphere is relaxed and not rushed - the dining room is relatively small so service is able to see when you are in need of anything. Everything on the menu is vegetarian and so full of flavor! Sometimes restaurants will just give you the meat version without the meat and that will be their vegetarian options but here you get treated to refined and practiced vegetarian dishes. Their teas some in a glass, clear tea pot and are always presented so nicely so it is an entire experience really. Read more
