We felt sorry for this restaurant when it opened as we were certain that it would fail - simply due to its location. It hasn't. It has thrived. And after eating there, we know why. I have lived in Japan for many years. I have been to most Japanese restaurants in town. Sushi Ya is the best sushi restaurant I have been to in Canada. You can tell the difference simply in the quality of their product compared to their competitors. The tuna is of the highest quality (you can tell). Their Tempura is cooked properly & is not overbreaded like at other restaurants in town. Their Yaki Udon is fantastic. And their rolls are simply superb. Read more

Wow, this is miles better than most sushi places in town, including some that claim to be authentically Japanese and then go on to charge you $25/person for *crunchy* sashimi (yes, you read that right). I ate here with my family and we were delighted to find another teppanyaki place after losing our favourite one in the west end, and being disappointed at the Village. I am disabled, and access use an issue that they cannot solve at that location, but they do everything that is possible to make up for it. We know our teppanyaki, and were very pleased. Even if you are not into sushi, it is worth a trip to Kakemono! My boyfriend LOVES sushi and although I don't mind it, it is not my favourite meal in the world. However, I love Teriyaki and the Teriyaki dishes on Kakemono's all you can eat menu are wonderful. I love this place! I have tried everything from the teriyakis to the udon to the maki and its awesome across the board. I have been a customer since they first opened over ten years ago and the service is excellent as well. I'm not a professional food critique but I can easily tell the food quality was superb with great, great taste. Although the place isn't new or fancy, it's great for casual family dine-in and quick takeout. Sometimes it gets really busy on weekends, longer wait than usual but worth the wait :p If you are looking for a place with great food taste, this place is right for you. I'd say sashimi varieties and sushi plates are the best as they are of the freshest quality. Also the place is quite small so not adequate for big party size though. Service is really great, I think the restaurant is run by family and the lady is really kind, always making sure the food is ok, giving lots of smiles, friendly atmosphere. Read more
