Sometimes, you just want to grab your lunch with both hands. A sandwich is lunch perfection when on the go, or stuck at a desk. Or, if you’re honest with yourself, it’s the perfect way to fuel your prosciutto addiction. Hit these spots for great sandwiches with killer names.
A sleek, stylish café and bakery, District Coffee Co opened in 2014. Owner Nate Box is the genius behind Elm Café, so District’s opening caused quite a stir. Elm is known for their amazing, inventive sandwiches, and District is no exception. Their lunch sandwiches are crazy cheap at only $8 a pop, and change daily. You can supplement with soup or salad, but the sandwiches are the stars here. They also offer delicious breakfast sandwiches and assorted baked goods.
This sandwich joint is the little sister of Three Boars Eatery, known for their dedication to using local products and their casual, laidback attitudes. But man, these guys are serious about sandwiches. A friend once claimed that his Farrow sandwich was laced with the best bacon he had ever tasted. And, I love the cheeky sandwich names, like From the Colonel’s Cold Dead Hands (it’s a cold fried chicken salad sandwich!).
Run by a hardworking, tough-as-nails lady, Swiss 2 Go is small but sturdy. Their Italian Bride Sandwich was named one of Avenue magazine’s 25 Best Things to Eat by foodie Gail Hall. Their pretzel buns, studded with kosher salt, are legendary. They’ve also developed a gluten-free bun in-house. And, their excessive use of prosciutto excites me.
